Luxembourg

Nathan came back home last week so this weekend we headed for Luxembourg, only a little over an hour from our house. We stayed in the capitol Luxembourg City, a beautiful city full of so much history. The city itself dates back over a thousand years, it has always been considered prime real estate as it sits in the middle of Europe. It was once a fortress city, with the old city itself built in the valley with stone walls around it. Now much of the new city sits above the walls, but you can still the see the old city. The city has about 100,000 residents, but more than 100,000 people travel into the city each day for work. The city is now one of three cities that has headquarters for the European Union. On Saturday we started out by going to the food market that is set up in one of the squares twice a week.
We then walked to the Notre Dame Cathedral, no not the one that everyone thinks of, that one is in France, but it was still beautiful.
We then had lunch at a wonderful soup cafe, the perfect meal for the rainy, windy weather that we were experiencing. We then shopped and walked around in the pedestrian district. We then went on a guided city tour, viewed the palace of the Grand Duke (Luxembourg is considered a grand duchy), the old city fortress, the old and new architecture, and many other sites.
